Dynamo Kiev coach Mircea Lucescu answered questions from journalists after the match on matchday three of the Champions League group stage against Barcelona, in which his team lost 1: 2.
– I couldn’t help but surprise that Shabanov came out on the left flank of the defense. What guided you in making this decision?
– We had two options, with De Pena or Shabanov on the left flank of the defense. We analyzed those 30-35 minutes of De Pena in the match with Desna and saw Shabanov’s fights last year, where he played as a left back, and decided to use Artyom. It is very important that Rodriguez has helped him on defense, another tactical decision. I would like to mention to Shabanov who did a very good job.
– Why were there so few fouls by the Dynamo today? In fact, in matches with such opponents, the tactic of a minor foul is suggested …
– This question should be posed in general to Ukrainian football, and not only to me. I always insist that the players on my team play hard until the end, but it will come little by little. Sometimes there is relaxation in team play. So it was in the match with “Ferencváros” in Budapest, so it was today in the first half. We will try to improve our game in this component.
– Rate your team’s attacking game.
– I’m happy with the way we played today, especially when it comes to going from defense to attack, there was speed and the last pass. This was especially noticeable in the context of our game in the match with “Ferencváros”. In Budapest we played individually in counterattacks and, as a result, we lost a lot of goals. Today we are out to fight back as a team, so we take them to the implementation point. But we lacked composure. First of all, Supryage and Tsygankov. But I want to highlight the game of Tsygankov and Neshcheret. I think they were the best of our team today.
– Who will have the advantage in Sunday’s Ukraine championship game, Dynamo – Shakhtar, taking into account the results of the Champions League matches?
– I don’t want to comment on Shakhtar’s game. I have not seen the game of this team with Borussia. And in general, I don’t comment on other teams. If you want to ask something about the Dynamo game, I will answer you.
– Can we say that today “Dynamo” showed the best game of this season?
– Each fight has its own story, so it is difficult to say which one was the best. But considering all the conditions and difficulties we find ourselves in on the eve of today’s fight, waiting for the second COVID-19 test, which we passed in Barcelona, I think we showed a very good game, I am satisfied. We had very good attacks. We have transformed our defensive game well into attack, creating quite a few scoring chances for Barcelona.
– What is your opinion about the VAR?
– I am an absolute opponent of this technology. Soccer is a spectacular spectacle for fans, for television. This is not handball or basketball, the VAR does not help here. It turns out that everything depends on the fourth or fifth referee, who somewhere in the room stands in front of the monitor and decides. I find it difficult to understand, I am against this technology.
