Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that city authorities are trying to prevent the introduction of a strict quarantine in the context of an increase in the incidence of the coronavirus.

According to Klitschko, depending on how the situation develops, the authorities will be forced to comply with the government’s decision if they decide on severe measures.

«Let me emphasize: the introduction of quarantine in the capital will already be an extreme measure. This is the principle position of the city authorities. Because, on the one hand, we are doing everything possible to protect people’s health and lives. On the other hand, we understand that people must work, businesses must develop. Children: go to school and kindergarten. We must maintain the economy of the city, which has already suffered from the crisis, ”said the mayor.

He added that the introduction of restrictions reduced revenues to the city budget. Therefore, according to the economists of the Kiev City State Administration, the budget of the capital will not receive about five billion hryvnias by the end of the year. Most of them – three billion hryvnia – is the personal income tax.

«And I would also like to appeal to the directors of institutions and companies: employees who can work remotely, give this opportunity. Address to the people of Kiev: use public transport only when absolutely necessary … Do not go to crowded places. Keep social distance and wear masks. Only together and through conscious action can we overcome this challenge. Otherwise, there won’t be enough beds if the virus spreads at that rate. Don’t we want quarantine? Then you have to be careful, “Klitschko said.

On November 2, a new division in quarantine zones began to operate in Ukraine. 11 regional centers entered the red quarantine zone, Kiev remained in the orange zone.

The Cabinet of Ministers has extended the quarantine in Ukraine until December 31. The approach to soften or strengthen quarantine remained adaptable, but the principle of region allocation was changed to strengthen quarantine measures.

The country was divided into four zones according to the level of danger of the spread of the coronavirus. Each of them has a certain number of restrictions.
