The Chief Medical Officer of Health, Viktor Lyashko, recalled the importance of prevention in Ukraine of another infectious disease of the “national level”, with the exception of COVID-19, – tuberculosis.
Furthermore, on his Facebook page Lyashko appealed to the Ukrainians, urging not taking antibiotics uncontrollably, even with coronavirus.
“The use of antibiotics during the fight against COVID-19 has increased significantly. I am sure this will have a negative contribution to the growth of antimicrobial resistance.”– said the doctor.
As for tuberculosis, then, according to Lyashko, by September 2020 year in Ukraine was recorded 1322 a person with this disease. More than 14,000 people are receiving treatment for tuberculosis.
“Unfortunately, tuberculosis has not disappeared and requires attention and a systematic approach to counteract its spread by government institutions and civil society organizations.”, – stressed the head of the ministry.
According to him, it is important to modify legislation to ensure the sustainable and effective implementation of services for people with tuberculosis.
“And this is first and foremost the uninterrupted provision of specific TB treatment, the introduction of modern world treatment methods and approaches, and of course social support, specifically focused on the needs of people with TB.” ., – wrote Lyashko.
