The eastern part of the Philippines was hit by a powerful Typhoon “Goni” on November 1, as a result of which 10 people have already died and around one million residents have been evacuated.
The provinces of Catanduanes and Albay suffered the disaster. Wind speed reached 225 km / h with gusts of up to 280 km / h, writes Associated Press (to see photos and videos, scroll the page to the end).
According to the BBC, residents were warned of potential landslides, severe flooding, storms, and high winds. Manila’s main airport is closed, and the military and national police, as well as the coast guard, are on high alert.
The overflowing riverbanks flooded coastal towns, and about 300 houses were buried under volcanic rocks and mud streams from the Mayon volcano, Reuters writes.
The media points out that this is one of the strongest typhoons in the Philippines for the past 7 years.
