Protests in Georgia. Tents set up outside the parliament

The opposition refuses to recognize the results of the voting in the parliamentary elections, according to which the ruling party Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia wins.

Participants in the protest action against the results of the parliamentary elections, which took place on October 31, set up two tents in Tbilisi near the parliament building, reports TASS.

“I am very angry. I want to express my protest as a common citizen. That those who want to go home and those who do not, stay. I will stay in front of the parliament, on the stairs,” said Khatia Dekanoidze, leader of the opposition United National Movement party . the head of the National Police of Ukraine, by the way.

Police tried to prevent protesters from setting up a tent city and even took one away from them, but then decided not to interfere. According to opposition representatives, they will now be in front of the legislature all night.

Several thousand representatives of opposition parties and their supporters take part in the demonstration in the center of Tbilisi. The protesters also marched to the home of Bidzina Ivanishvili, chair of the ruling Georgia Dream-Democratic Georgia party, and then returned to parliament.

Let us remind you that the parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on Saturday October 31st. They were carried out according to a mixed system: 120 deputies were elected according to the proportional system and 30 according to the majority system. 48 parties and two political blocs participated in the fight for 150 seats.

After counting the votes of 99% of the electoral colleges, the ruling Georgian Dream Party – Democratic Georgia is winning more than 48% of the votes. Second is the United Opposition Force in Unity bloc, which includes Mikhail Saakashvili’s United National Movement. The bloc is winning about 27% of the vote. Out of 30 single-term electoral districts, only one is the leader of the opposition candidate, while in 13 districts the candidates of the Georgian dream win in the first round, obtaining more than 50% of the vote.
