A protest action called “Dzyady” (“Ancestors”) takes place in Minsk on Sunday, scheduled to coincide with Remembrance Day, which is celebrated in Belarus on November 2. During the march, people shout: “Long live Belarus!”, “Go away!”, “We will not forget, we will not forgive!”, “Out!”
This week, Alexander Lukashenko launched new threats against the protesters. He said he had no plans to “take prisoners.”
On Sunday morning, armored all-terrain vehicles with machine guns, as well as water cannons, appeared in the center of Minsk with an action.
Shooting in the air
In the center of Minsk, on Independence Avenue, two columns of protesters moving along the sidewalks united in a large column and advanced along the road.
Security forces fired several warning shots into the air as citizens approached riot police on Independence Avenue. There was no direct collision. The protesters bypassed the riot police and continued to move. At the same time, the security forces began to arrest the protesters.
