The suspect in an accident on the Independence Square in Kiev was sent under 24-hour house arrest for 60 days with the mandatory use of an electronic bracelet. This decision was made by the Shevchenkovsky District Court, Suspilnoe reports on Saturday, October 31.
The man was taken to court in an ambulance accompanied by law enforcement officers. During the meeting, he lay down and did not move. The driver said he was not feeling well, but responded to the judge’s questions.
According to him, before getting in the car he felt fine and his condition began to deteriorate the moment he turned towards Khreshchatyk. It was then that he lost consciousness, which had not happened to him before. The culprit of the accident claimed that he did not remember what happened after the start of the curve near the Maidan.
In turn, Yuri Nazaraenko’s witness was his doctor. He said a 66-year-old patient had a stroke and was operated on on October 19. On the 26th Nazarenko was discharged and on Friday he came for an exam. The driver received no driving warnings.
Furthermore, the defense added that the suspect fully admits his guilt and is willing to pay compensation to the victims. According to the lawyer, 50% of the amount has already been collected and will be paid regardless of whether Nazarenko is found guilty.

A video was also released, showing how an uncontrollable car went through the protective hemispheres onto the sidewalk and then rammed into another car. Then the truck crossed the pedestrian zone, climbed, crashed into a crowd of pedestrians and then rammed four cars. The 66-year-old driver said he lost consciousness while driving. The test drager found no alcohol on his body.
