French police have arrested the third suspect involved in the Nice terrorist attack. This was reported by the AFP agency, citing a source.
According to the interlocutor, we are talking about a 33-year-old man. The source did not reveal his role in the crime.
The attack in Nice took place on the morning of October 29. The man attacked passersby with a knife, at least three people were killed, two of them died in the church. The attacker, a 21-year-old Tunisian, was injured during his arrest and is now in hospital.
That same day, in the center of Lyon, a native of Afghanistan was arrested with a knife, trying to board a tram.
The French authorities have declared the highest level of terrorist threat.
The attacks came almost two weeks after the murder of Samuel Pati, a history professor at Conflans-Saint-Honorine College. The suspect died during the arrest. This is an 18 year old Moscow native of Chechen origin Abdullah Anzorov. Shortly before his death, the professor showed cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in a lesson on freedom of expression. French law enforcement officers reported 11 detainees suspected of being involved in the murder of a history teacher.
Following the attack on the teacher, French President Emmanuel Macron declared “Islamist separatism” and expressed the opinion that “Islam is in crisis all over the world.” In the farewell ceremony with Pati, the French leader said: “We will continue, teacher, we will defend the freedom that you taught so well, and we will extol the principles of the secular state, we will not abandon cartoons, drawings.”
Macron’s words were criticized by several leaders of Muslim countries, including Turkish President Recep Erdogan. Chechnya chief Ramzan Kadyrov called the French president “the mastermind of terrorism.”
