The earthquake in western Turkey killed 24 people, injured – 804 people, of which 743 – in Izmir, five – in Manisa, two – in Balikesir and 54 – in Aydin. the Turkish Agency for Emergencies and Natural Disasters (AFAD) announced this on Friday.

“The death toll has risen to 24, the number wounded up to 804,” the message says.

According to rescuers, one of the victims drowned. At 0130 Kiev time, search and rescue operations have been completed on four of the 17 destroyed buildings in Izmir. 13 more buildings are being dismantled.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 occurred on Friday, October 30, near the Seferihisar region in the Aegean Sea. The epicenter was at a depth of 16.54 km. After the earthquake, 296 aftershocks were recorded, 27 of which were more powerful than magnitude 4.

As a result of the aftershocks, several dozen buildings were damaged. Search and rescue operations involve around 4,000 emergency services.

The tremors were so strong that they were felt in Istanbul, as well as in Greek Athens and Samos, where the dome of the church collapsed.

Notably, even before rescuers began work, people independently began to dismantle the rubble and remove the victims.

Remember that the earthquake occurred on the afternoon of Friday, October 30 and lasted 15 seconds. Its epicenter was in the Aegean Sea. Tremors were also felt in Istanbul, Canakkale, Denizli and Bursa.
