According to the Turkish side, the magnitude of the tremors was 6.6 points. Mediterranean European Seismological Center (EMSC) assigned the earthquake a magnitude of 7.

As a result, dozens of buildings were destroyed, including in the coastal city of Izmir. People were in a panic, they ran out of the buildings.

According to the latest information, at least 12 people died in the earthquake in Turkey. Turkey also said that 419 people were injured.

The Greek Civil Protection Ministry told CNN that the earthquake on the island of Samos killed two teenagers. Their bodies were removed from the rubble.

Idil Gungor, a witness to the earthquake in Turkey, said his room in the coastal city of Sigajik was flooded after the tremors.

«The damage is great, but this is not due to the earthquake, but to the subsequent strong tide, ”said Gungor.

Another witness to the incident, Zeki Soysal, from the Turkish city of Izmir, said he was thrown from a building during an earthquake.

«I threw myself outside and at the last second my building collapsed, ”he said.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that despite differences with Turkey, they must now come together to help.

«I just called the president [Эрдогану]to express our condolences for the tragic loss of life as a result of the earthquake that struck both countries, ”he said.
