While Ukraine takes reputational risks

For the second day, the Foreign Ministry has been grappling with the consequences of the decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in terms of a possible suspension of visa-free travel, the minister said.

Following the decisions of the National Defense and Security Council, the issue of temporary termination of visa-free travel was removed from the agenda. Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba spoke about this in an interview with Novoye Vremya.

“After yesterday’s decisions by the National Security and Defense Council and the Cabinet of Ministers, I am convinced that the issue of the temporary termination of the visa-free regime with the EU has been removed from the agenda,” Kuleba added.

According to him, yesterday, October 29, the Foreign Ministry promised to overcome the consequences of this problem in terms of a possible suspension of visa-free travel.

“So far, the only reputational risks we run are due to the decision of the Constitutional Court. Because, in fact, it destroyed the anti-corruption infrastructure that was created together with our international partners in the interest of the Ukrainian people and the European integration of Ukraine,” he said Kuleba.

Recall that a political scandal broke out in Ukraine after October 27 in a closed session of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine declared unconstitutional criminal responsibility for inaccurate declaration. Subsequently, the EU reacted to the decision of the Constitutional Court on declarations. The Delegation of the European Union recalled that financial assistance to Ukraine was related to the activities of anti-corruption bodies. The media also reported that due to the Constitutional Court, Ukraine could lose a visa without a visa.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called emergency meetings of the NSDC and the Cabinet of Ministers, as a result of which an urgent bill on restoring the integrity of constitutional procedures in Ukraine will be submitted to the Rada, involving the resignation of all the composition of the Constitutional Court.
