Ukrainian coach of Ferencvaros Sergey Rebrov He gave a press conference on the eve of the match on matchday 2 of the Champions League against Dynamo Kiev.
– Do you feel the difference in the attitude of your players to the matches against different rivals in the Champions League group?
– Before the game with Barcelona, the journalists asked me if we had to adapt to the Spanish tactics, or if the rivals would have to adapt to us. Then I replied that Ferencváros had not played in the Champions League for 25 years, so we must be prepared to change our game according to our opponents.
On Wednesday we will also face a very strong rival. But since we are playing at home, we will try to demonstrate our own game that will allow us to dominate the field and win.
– Will it complicate the task? «Dynamo» Buschan and Mikolenko absent due to identified COVID-19?
– I don’t know how problematic this is for Dynamo Kiev, but I think our opponent has at least two equal players for each position. Our team also faced this problem: Mirto Uzuni, who is a very important footballer for us, is infected and will not be able to play. We must adapt to current conditions if we want to continue playing football.
– What emotions do you experience before meeting with your old club?
– Of course, I feel certain emotions. But professionally, they don’t affect my work. I like to prepare for serious teams like Dynamo Kiev. In addition, I am very happy that the Dynamo will play again in the group stage of the Champions League.
– What are your expectations from the coaches’ duel with Mircea Lucescu?
– I really respect Mircea Lucescu, he is a top-level coach, a legend in Romania. I think everyone noticed the changes Lucescu brought to the Dynamo. I see more discipline, more understanding of the game. Of course, a difficult match awaits us. But I am not preparing the team for a personal meeting with Lucescu, but for a meeting with Dynamo Kiev. We must be prepared for any situation on the pitch, because, as I said, this is a very wise coach.
– Many people think that in our group «Ferencvaros» the greatest chances of scoring points are in matches with «Dynamo»… What are your expectations for tomorrow’s fight?
– My expectations are the same as they had before the game against Barcelona. We are back in the Champions League after 25 years and we want to show a competitive game. Of course we want to win, but my focus is not on the points, but on showing the maximum in each element of the game. The Champions League is a tournament of the highest level. Tomorrow we play at home, so I demand maximum concentration and motivation from my players.
– The team is now running on a tight schedule. Are you still just focused on the next game?
– I’m sure the players are focused on the Dynamo, but in my head now is not only tomorrow’s game, but also the next three. We are trying to find the right balance of players in the Champions League and Championship matches. If we play with different squads, then we won’t have a chance. Therefore, it is important to maintain a balance in all fighting during this difficult period.
