The president of the Foreign Ministry, Yekaterina Zelenko, said about this in a comment to hromadske.
«They were attacked by a shark on October 25 while diving. (“Snorkeling”) in the Ras Mohammed national reserve, which is in the area of the official prohibition of all types of diving, “said the Foreign Ministry.
The boy, whose arm was amputated, is in intensive care at Sharm el-Sheikh hospital, he will be operated on again. The injured woman is in satisfactory condition, she was transferred from the intensive care unit to the hospitalization room. There are no plans yet to evacuate the Ukrainians.
The Ukrainian embassy assured that they are in constant contact with the victims’ families, the administration of the medical center and the Ukrainian tour operator, whose services the tourists used.
The previous day, the State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine reported that in Egypt a Ukrainian family was seriously injured by a shark attack. A 12-year-old boy had his arm amputated as a result, his mother and the instructor who led the tour were also injured.
The tour operator said that tourists previously bought from third parties (not from the tour operator or its partners) diving from excursion yachts.
