According to the agency, a man in camouflage with a military backpack violated the rules to cross the state border. He had a survival kit, a mobile phone, and several thousand Russian rubles.

The detainee said he was from Kazan and that since 2008 he headed a branch of an organization whose activities are aimed at changing the current government in the Russian Federation. Since 2016, the man has actively supported the Ukrainian Azov regiment on social media and financially. He was repeatedly condemned for his opinions. Given the frequent threats and the possibility of another incarceration, he decided to flee the country.

To find out the circumstances of the illegal border crossing, the Russian was taken to the border unit. When drafting a case on an administrative offense under part 2 of art. 204-1 of the Code of Ukraine on administrative offenses (illegal crossing or attempted illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine), the detainee applied for recognition as a refugee on the territory of Ukraine or a person requiring additional protection.



“Azov” was founded on May 5, 2014 in the form of a battalion, on September 17 of the same year it was reorganized, on its basis a regiment of the same name was created, reported on the unit’s website. Not nowolk “Azov” is in the structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
