Chief Medical Officer of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko
Local elections should not lead to a coronavirus outbreak, Ukraine’s chief medical officer said.
Ukraine’s chief medical doctor, Viktor Lyashko, said that during local elections, which took place on October 25, 50 people were hospitalized from polling stations to hospitals, and one person died. He announced it on Monday, October 26, on Hromadske air radio.
“There were 250 ambulance calls to polling stations, 50 people were hospitalized, one person died of cardiac arrest before the ambulance arrived,” said the medical director.
At the same time, he summarized that the elections were generally held in accordance with the sanitary standards prescribed in the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers and no serious violations were recorded.
“Non-compliance with social distance and the absence of shields on members of the electoral commissions are the main violations that were most frequently recorded in the polling stations,” Lyashko said.
He is confident that local elections should not trigger a coronavirus outbreak.
As you know, on October 25, for the first time in Ukraine, local elections were held at all levels, in which citizens elected both representatives in local and regional councils as well as heads of village councils and city.
