Observer at local elections in Kiev announced suspicion of voter bribery: prosecutor’s office

An observer from one of the political parties that participated in the local elections offered a reward of UAH 500 per vote in favor of his candidate for mayor of the capital. This was reported by the Kiev city prosecutor’s office.

The local prosecutor’s office number 3 in Kiev announced the suspicion of organizing voter bribery of an observer of one of the candidates for the post of mayor of Kiev. This was reported on October 26 by the press service of the Kiev city prosecutor’s office.

“The suspect, a representative of one of the political forces and official election observer of a candidate for the post of mayor of Kiev, offered citizens a reward of 500 hryvnia for voting for specific candidates of the political force to which he belongs,” the statement said.

The observer was detained on October 25 near the electoral college on Mayakovsky Avenue in the Desnyanskiy district of the capital. With him he had lists with personal data of citizens.

The criminal proceeding was started under part 4 of art. 160 (bribery of a voter, participant in a referendum, member of an electoral commission or referendum commission) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The prosecution said the containment measure for the suspect has not yet been chosen. He faces up to seven years in prison.
