Ukraine may refuse to switch to summer and winter time

The decision depends on how this problem will be solved in the EU countries.

Ukraine can abandon the seasonal transition to summer time to bring the legislation into line with the European Union standards. To do this, a proper decision must be made in the EU.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy.

As noted in the message, now in Ukraine the transition to winter and summer time is being carried out in accordance with Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 509 of 05.13.1996 “On the procedure for calculating time in Ukraine”. On Sunday, October 25, 2020 at 4:00 Kyiv time, the hand of the clock moves back 1 (one) hour.

In the EU a similar procedure is applied to calculate the time on the basis of Directive 2000/84 / EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19.01.2001 on the transition to summer time.

At the same time, as pointed out by the Ministry of Economy, the European Commission proposed to consider the issue of the possible cancellation of the transfer of hours twice a year. Each EU country must, before April 2021, decide what time it will stay: summer or winter.

“The Ministry of Economy is monitoring the initiatives of the European Commission to change the procedure for calculating time in the EU. If the EU takes a decision at the legislative level to cancel the transfer of watches and in order to harmonize our legislation with the EU, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will be invited to consider the possibility of appropriate changes in the legislation of Ukraine “, – says the message.

As RBC-Ukraine reported, daylight saving time in Ukraine is canceled on October 25, 2020 at 4 (four) hours Kiev time. On the last Sunday in October, the hour hand is delayed by 1 (one) hour.

Please note that in March 2019, the European Parliament voted to abolish the practice of changing clocks from 2021. However, this vote is not the last on the issue of canceling the transfer of the clock, but it will become the basis for discussion in the EU countries to develop a joint position.
