Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said he intends to sign strategic agreements with various states.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in an interview with Ukrainian channels, which was published on October 22, said that the opinion of Ukrainians on the Budapest Memorandum is very important to him and therefore this issue was raised for a survey of all Ukraine. The broadcast was made by the Segodnya YouTube channel.

“And what I will do next, I will not tell you, because this is a complex job that I am engaged in. Today I am engaged in the complete rebirth of the state of Ukraine: independent, defensive, so it is not a coincidence that we have naval bases, it is not a coincidence. I sign strategic agreements, which the state of Ukraine did not have anywhere near, unfortunately. I sign with Great Britain, with Turkey, and I want to do this with several other countries. Therefore, I cannot express my entire strategy I believe that Ukraine is in Europe it must be very strong. I believe that our fleet must be very strong. And that is why this is part of the strategy, “said the president.

Zelensky expressed his belief that all signed memoranda and agreements must be implemented.

“If they are not met, Ukraine should not constantly knock on doors and shout: ‘How is that? Not accomplished! “I think it is very simple: not fulfilled – we have the right to do what we see fit. This is state independence. And otherwise, we will not be at the table of European states or countries of the world, but we will be constantly people who ask “give me more credit”, “give me a boat”, “give us more bulletproof vests”, “give us masks”. But I can’t see how we don’t live without something and then without someone. Is it possible that we are a powerful country ? There is no Zrada, but I want to create a country that is a true actor not only in agriculture, but in all other areas, “emphasized the head of state.

The Budapest Memorandum was signed on December 5, 1994. According to the document, the signatory countries – Great Britain, Russia and the United States – pledged to be guarantors of the independence, sovereignty and borders of Ukraine, as well as to refrain from using any weapon against Ukraine, not just nuclear. In addition, the signatories promised not to exert economic pressure on Kiev. In return, Ukraine renounced its nuclear status. The memorandum was signed by the then President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, US President Bill Clinton and British Prime Minister John Major.

In 2014, Russia violated the terms of the memorandum by annexing Crimea and launching armed aggression in Donbas, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov believes that Russia did not violate the Budapest Agreement, as it did not use nuclear weapons against Ukraine.
