The idea of creating a vaccine, the development of which was announced in Ukraine, came about by accident, during the production of Ukrainian tests for COVID-19. This was announced in an information session on Thursday, October 22, by the American scientist, Doctor of Medical Sciences Mikhail Favorov, who participated in the development of the vaccine.
“When I managed to obtain adequate figures for Chinese morbidity, in January, the first question arose: What are we going to do? Then the sequence of the virus appeared. And the group of Ukrainian scientists who worked in their country for the tests for the diagnosis of many infections is Diaprof-Med “. they wanted to do an antibody test to diagnose this virus, “Favorov said.
According to him, Ukrainian scientists managed to create a protein project, which he considers one of the best in the world.
“We have created a protein project, one of the best in the world. Because not only are class M and G antibodies available, I was impressed by the development of total antibodies, which helps accurately determine the time of disease. But now an antigen test has been performed that is suitable for PCR. It will now be implemented as an additional test for diagnosis, “said the expert.
He noted that during work on the project, it turned out that among people who had recovered from Covid-19, up to 100% had antibodies against the protein that developed.
“While we were working, the first thing I noticed is that among people who have recovered up to 100% they have antibodies against the protein that we have developed. That is exactly what we are studying. I mean, it’s a natural antigen, which is quite possible. if it becomes a vaccine, it can protect anyone, “Favorov said.
After that, according to the scientist, the research on the developed protein began.
“It is completely original, the patent belongs to Ukraine, Diaprof. We discovered that this protein is a particle, it folds into a 25 nanometer ball. What does this mean? That the ball has a 3D effect, and the disease will interact only with the ball”. Then we immunize rabbits, mice, rats, everyone that we just immunized. And they all gave a very good smart answer. This indicated that antibodies are being produced and this protein can be turned into a vaccine, “said Mikhail Favorov.
According to him, after that, he reported the results of the study to the head of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Maxim Stepanov.
“We informed Maksim Vladimirovich. And that, by definition, we must show that our protein neutralizes the virus. This took us a long time. Then we discovered that what we immunized did not alter the structure of the cells. And from that moment we can start doing the vaccine. It will take a long time, three phases, “Favorov said.
At the same time, he stressed that it is already clear that in time it will be possible to obtain a drug that protects against COVID-19.
As reported, this week, scientists informed Zelensky about the creation of a Ukrainian vaccine against the coronavirus. It was noted that the investigation has been conducted for six months.
And today it became known that Ukraine is developing a COVID vaccine with the Americans, and Zelensky is instructing about full state funding for the production of the drug.
