The new law defines the safety and quality standards of donated blood

The document adapts Ukrainian legislation to the legal order of the European Union within the framework of the Association Agreement.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the law On the safety and quality of donated blood and blood components… This was announced on Wednesday, October 21, by the press service of the Head of State.

“The document defines the principles of the state policy on the organization of the collection, analysis, processing, storage, distribution, transportation and sale of donated blood and its components, as well as the functioning of the blood system,” says the message.

In addition, the new law defines the safety and quality standards of donated blood so that Ukrainians receive the same access to it and in the required quantity.

“An authorized body should be created in Ukraine to authorize the activities of blood system subjects, monitor their activities and collect information on serious adverse events or reactions associated with operations with donated blood,” the press service said.

In addition, the creation of the National Registry of Blood Donors, as well as of people who cannot be donors, and its integration into eHealth was announced.

With the help of the adopted document, the national legislation is being adapted to the legal system of the European Union in the framework of the implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

We will recall, on September 30, that Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill defining the requirements for donor blood. According to him, the donation should be free and voluntary according to the best world standards and in accordance with the WHO recommendations.
