In Moscow, the former president of the Patriarchal Commission for the Family, Protection of Maternity and Children, Archpriest Dimitri Smirnov, died. He died at the age of 69, writes RIA, referring to the press secretary of the Synodal Department of Charity of the Church and Social Service Vasily Rulinsky.

“Now it is known about the death of Father Dimitri Smirnov. The Kingdom of Heaven for our dear father,” wrote Rulinsky in his Telegram.

The cause of death was a chronic disease.

The archpriest was known for his scandalous and provocative statements. So, for example, he declared that women are stupider than men, men called a national tragedy.

He also compared de facto wives to “free prostitutes.” With this, Smirnov, according to him, wanted to draw the public’s attention to the problem of coexistence and protect women from inappropriate treatment by men.

We add that Dmitry Smirnov called the coronavirus pandemic a very useful phenomenon, as “selfishness began to shrink.” At the same time, he himself had been sick with COVID-19 in May.
