Kidney disease increases risk of death from coronavirus
Scientists explain this by the effect of coronavirus infection on the body in general and the use of toxic agents in treating the disease.
British scientists have found that kidney disease doubles the risk of death from coronavirus infection, writes the Telegraph newspaper.
Researchers from Imperial College London analyzed data from 372 infected patients who were admitted to intensive care units at four hospitals in London and Birmingham between March 10 and July 23.
216 patients had kidney problems, chronic or caused by infections, of which 107 died. At the same time, of the 156 remaining infected without kidney disease, 32 people died.
Scientists attribute this to the effect of coronavirus infection on the body as a whole, the “crossover” between the lungs and kidneys, and the use of toxic agents in treating the disease.
Previously, scientists at the University of Liverpool found that successive flu and COVID-19 disease increases the risk of death by six times.
