Lyashko told how Ukraine keeps statistics of deaths from coronavirus

Ukraine has not changed its approach to calculating deaths after the start of the coronavirus pandemic: the statistics take into account patients who died with COVID-19, and not just those who died as a result of the disease.

Mortality from coronavirus infection in Ukraine is less than 2%, statistics take into account all deceased patients with COVID-19, said Ukraine’s chief sanitary physician, deputy head of the Ministry of Health Viktor Lyashko in an interview with Radio Svoboda , published on October 17.

“Mortality of 2% in Ukraine. Even though Ukraine did not revise the indicators to calculate deaths, but remained as it began. We are talking about the number of deaths that are recorded daily in operational statistics. That is, one person died and if he had diagnosed with the coronavirus disease, it enters our statistics. Not because of the coronavirus disease, but when he died with the coronavirus disease. And we still have a mortality rate today that is already less than 2% “Lyashko said.

He noted that the death rate in the world has decreased from 7% to 3%.

“That is, doctors have already found certain approaches to get coronavirus patients out of a critical condition,” added Ukraine’s medical director.

An outbreak of coronavirus infection began in late 2019 in China. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the spread of the coronavirus a pandemic.

In Ukraine, the total number of people infected with coronavirus in Ukraine is 293,641 (of which 6,410, in the last 24 hours), 5,517 people have died, 124,113 have recovered.
