What is the essence of the conflict
The conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia began in Nagorno-Karabakh in 1988, when the predominantly Armenian Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region announced its withdrawal from the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions, 20% of the territory of Azerbaijan, are under occupation by the Armenian armed forces. In May 1994, the parties reached a ceasefire. The territorial conflict has not yet been resolved.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the President of Azerbaijan stated that Armenia had asked them for a truce in the area of the military conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Let us remember that the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh intensified with renewed vigor on September 27.
