By the end of the year, up to 20 thousand people may die from the coronavirus in Ukraine, as evidenced by the results of the analysis of the Kiev School of Economics.
As reported on the school’s website, up to 10,000 new COVID-19 cases can be recorded daily in Ukraine since November.
«According to the four main indicators to assess the situation with COVID-19, Ukraine is among the countries with the most difficult situation. Ukraine ranks seventh in the number of new COVID-19 cases. In terms of mortality, it is the fourth. In testing and identifying COVID-19 patients, Ukraine ranks last in Europe. A similar situation occurs in the Czech Republic, where the authorities imposed a strict quarantine: schools and kindergartens were closed, mass events were banned, ”said Pavel Kovtonyuk, director of the Center for Health Economics at the School of Economics of Kiev.
The model of the Kiev School of Economics indicates that Ukraine is moving towards the worst case of a pandemic: experts warn that if the situation in the areas of active spread of the coronavirus is not controlled, up to 20 thousand people may die from COVID -19 before the end of the year.
«If the current situation does not change, in two weeks, in November, the daily number of newly diagnosed patients will reach 10,000. The burden on the medical system will be maximum and will only withstand if complex restrictions are introduced now in areas with an active outbreak, ”warned Yuriy Ganichenko, senior researcher at the Department of Economic and Policy Research.
The Kiev School of Economics recommends:
- introduce comprehensive quarantine restrictions in regions with an active coronavirus outbreak;
- strengthen the preparation of hospitals for peak loads;
- increase the number of tests.
According to the World Health Organization forecasts, by the end of the year in Ukraine between 7 and 9 thousand new cases of coronavirus infection will be registered every day.
During the past day, the coronavirus in Ukraine was detected in 5,062 people, 73 patients died, another 951 recovered.
Until October 15, during the pandemic in Ukraine, COVID-19 fell ill with 281,239 people, of which 119,650 recovered, deaths – 5,302.
The Cabinet has extended the quarantine in Ukraine until December 31. The approach to soften or strengthen quarantine remained adaptive, but the principle of region allocation was changed to strengthen quarantine measures.
The country was divided into four zones according to the level of danger of the spread of the coronavirus. Each of them has a certain number of restrictions.
