Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov resigned. The situation in Kyrgyzstan is approaching a conflict between protesters and security forces.
This was reported by the presidential press service.
Jeenbekov said this in his speech to the people. He called the situation in the country tense. According to him, the demand for his resignation continues.
“I am not holding on to power. I do not want to stay in the history of Kyrgyzstan as president, who shed blood and shot his own citizens. That is why I decided to resign,” he said.
Previously, the president reported that he would resign after the parliamentary elections.
Let us remind you that the protests started in Kyrgyzstan after the parliamentary elections. The protesters disagreed with the results and demanded re-election. In this regard, the Kyrgyz Central Election Commission did not recognize the elections and appointed new ones.
However, protests continued and a curfew was imposed in Bishkek from 21:00 to 05:00.
Furthermore, in the context of the protests in Kyrgyzstan, President Sooronbai Jeenbekov reintroduced the state of emergency in Bishkek.
