French President Emmanuel Macron announced that people should stay home between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. in Paris and eight other cities to control the rapid spread of the coronavirus in the country.
It is reported by the BBC.
Macron said the curfew will take effect on Saturday and last at least four weeks.
A state of emergency has also been declared in the country.
President Macron said this coronavirus wave was different from the spring outbreak because the virus had spread across France.
The curfew will apply to Paris and its suburbs, as well as to Marseille, Lyon, Lille, Aix-en-Provence, Rouen, Toulouse, Grenoble and Montpellier.
It will initially apply for four weeks, but the Macron government will seek to extend it to six.
According to Macron, these measures will prevent people from visiting restaurants and private homes in the afternoon and evening.
He said residents would need a good reason to be out of the house during curfew hours.
Schools will remain open and people will still be able to travel between regions during the day.
“We have to act. We must stop the spread of the virus, ”Macron said, adding that he understands that the curfew is «difficult “for people.
