The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ruslan Khomchak, said that the reform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the incorporation of troops to NATO standards are ongoing. He said it on the air for the Day of the Defender of Ukraine on the Ukrainian TV channel on Wednesday, October 14.

“We are now in the current stage, because the reform began in 2015, but practical measures – in 2019. We must bring our troops and all the processes that take place in the Armed Forces closer to the principles of NATO, because the principles are the basis that we must accept and comply with, “emphasized Khomchak.

He added that the fundamental principle is that “a person stands in front of everything, and it is around a person that everything is more formed: both the preparation issue and the application issue.”

As Khomchak said, it is necessary to understand that the military are people who are constantly exposed to danger, “and based on these principles, first of all, it is necessary not to preserve a model of weapons at the cost of human lives, but, on the contrary , save a person’s life at the cost of skill, learning and better weapons. “.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine highly valued the United Efforts – 2020 international exercises held in Ukraine, although they had to be organized after the completion of the reform in the army.

“When we planned these exercises we understood that, according to the classic scheme, we first had to complete all the reforms, acquire opportunities and then carry out the exercises. But since there is a war in the country and the enemy does not wait for us to complete the reform, we decided that we carry out training, “explained Khomchak.

The exercises and the participation of international partners in them played a very important role in the overall training, summarized the commander-in-chief.
