The British Air Force dropped a five-ton Tallboy bomb on what is now the Polish town of Swinoujscie in 1945. To neutralize it, the authorities evacuated local residents.

In the Polish city of Swinoujscie, a five-ton seismic bomb from World War II exploded during neutralization. This was reported by the Euronews television channel.

The unexploded bomb was found while excavating an access road to the port of Szczecin in northwestern Poland. In preparation for its removal, some 750 local residents were evacuated. A 2.5 kilometer security zone has been created around the designated area, traffic in the port has been suspended.

During the operation, no one was injured by the explosion of the bomb: it exploded remotely, at that moment the divers were taken out of the danger zone.

Tallboy’s five-ton bomb is capable of causing a small earthquake, the channel said. The Royal Air Force of Great Britain dropped it in this territory during an attack on a Nazi warship in 1945.

During the war years, Swinoujscie was one of the most important bases of the German navy in the Baltic, because this territory was the site of a massive bombardment.
