The euphoria of the outstanding qualification of the Ukrainian team for the 2020 European Championship began to gradually subside. The COVID-19 coronavirus has moved the international forum one year in time, during which Andriy Shevchenko’s team was expected to cross another milestone in its history. Instead, the national teams did not meet for almost a year, and after this difficult period Ukraine did not show such reliable results.

The debut in the top division of the Nations League proved to be a success for Andriy Shevchenko’s teams – Switzerland in Lviv was defeated by a score of 2: 1 – but this was followed by disastrous trips to Spain (0: 4) already France for a friendly match (1: 7). and also the failure with the Germans in Kiev (1: 2). This season’s UEFA Nations League group round wheel has taken its first turn, and our schedule now includes a home match with Furya Roha, the absolute leader of the quartet, at NSC Olimpiyskiy.

Contrary to the pessimistic expectations of a certain part of the fans, the Ukrainian team in the first half of the report meeting showed a fairly well-coordinated game in their half of the field. Along with another delightful stop from Buschan, this allowed Shevchenko’s team to keep the intrigue in its entirety during the second half of the match. However, the beginning was still quite nervous.

Spain took control from the first minutes, however, the consolidation in the central zone of the Ukrainian team did not allow them to delay in the approach to the penalty area. The guests had to go to the flanks. In this match, Luis Enrique preferred to use three fast players on the attack line at the same time, so our rivals had no problems with passing. Sable, frankly, did not keep up with Traore in his zone, from where the dangerous first serve came into possession of Buschan – the goalkeeper had to receive a header from Rodrigo from under the crossbar.

The “Red Fury” fired more than once in the attack during the first half, but the blows from Fati, Ramos and Merino could not pass our goalkeeper. From the side of Shevchenko’s team, a confident play was not observed in the opponent’s half. The Ukraine national team focused on counterattacks, one of which Zubkov created a wonderful moment to earn a penalty for a foul by Navas. Unfortunately, the referee did not believe our midfielder. In fact, the first half of this match perfectly characterized the moment after a free kick by Ramos to the upper left corner: the experienced captain of the Spaniards winked at Buschan, the goalkeeper of the Ukrainian team winked at him. answer: the challenge was accepted! The second half promised to be no less hectic.

After the break, the situation could immediately change in favor of the Ukrainian team. Zubkov from the area in front of the goalkeeper fired at De Gea’s goal, catching a successful rebound, but did not hit the ball well, causing an absurd error. Alexander was initially saved by the flag raised by the side referee, but the replay made it clear that there was no offside position, but there was no VAR in the match to fix this moment if something happened. Ukraine broke free against the backdrop of a catchy start to the second half, which will play into our hands going forward.

Almost at the end of a full hour of play, we had to endure a real panic in our penalty area. Rodri fired from mid-range that caused the ball to lick the right post behind Buschan, after which the goalkeeper twice blocked two consecutive attempts from the left corner of the goalkeeper from Oyarsabal and Ferran. Spain felt a decisive advantage in possession, as well as an ability to create scoring chances, so they opened up in attack and gave up immediately. Buschan took Karavaev out from the gate on the flank, Alexander threw his head at Yarmolenko, who with an instant pass sent Tsygankov to catch De Gea, who had escaped the gate somewhere by mistake. It turned out purely “Dynamo” goal.

There were just over 15 minutes to go to the end of the game, which became the most difficult for the Ukrainian team this season. The avalanche of attacks from the fallen flanks had to be contained, while the Spanish finally managed to break through Sobol’s resistance. However, Adama Traore, try as he might, was unable to provide help to his partners. The omnipresent Ramos didn’t help the guests either. And Shevchenko’s team simply established three defensive echelons, and at the same time Yaremchuk also had time to “bite” opponents in the pressure in the center of the field. Decent victory against a status rival!

The third international break of the current season for the Ukrainian team will be marked by away games against Germany (November 14, 2020) and Switzerland (November 17, 2020). On the same dates, the Spanish team will celebrate its guest meeting with Switzerland and its home meeting with Germany.
