NV collected the brightest photos of the Minsk protests on October 11.
Even before the start of the March for Dignity, military trucks and special equipment were brought to Minsk.
Opposition supporters gathered in the wake of Minsk Hero City. Heavy arrests with gas and stun grenades began.
The security forces beat people with batons and kicks. Volunteers provided medical assistance to several of the injured.
After dispersing people in the wake, the Belarusian police used paint water cannons against the peaceful protesters.
A huge column of protesters moved through the center of Minsk. People carried white, red and white flags and umbrellas.
The security forces also blocked the streets of the capital, blocking the movement of the column of protesters.
The arrests resumed at 4:30 p.m. at the Pushkinskaya metro station.
As of 6:30 p.m., more than 200 detainees were known in Sunday’s protests in Minsk.
For the second month in Belarus, mass protests against the Alexander Lukashenko regime, which has ruled the country since 1994, have harshly suppressed the opposition and the independent media. The protests broke out after the rigged presidential elections on August 9. Belarusians are demanding new elections.
The peaceful protests were accompanied by bloody attacks by security agents controlled by Lukashenka. OMON fighters used water cannons, rubber bullets, tear gas and flash and noise grenades against the civilian population.
The Belarusian dictator rejected any concessions and attempts at dialogue with protesters and the opposition, repeatedly claiming that Belarus’ western neighbors are behind the wave of protests.
