Coronavirus in Ukraine: Zelensky gave a series of instructions to prepare for a new wave

Ukraine is preparing for a new wave of coronavirus. During the meeting, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, gave a series of instructions to combat the pandemic.

This was announced by the head of the Verkhovna Rada committee on the nation’s health, Servant of the People MP Mikhail Radutsky on Facebook.

So, the decision was made:

  • temporarily transfer higher education institutions to distance education;
  • fall break in schools must begin before October 15, but the exact date will be determined by local authorities;
  • in the “red” and “orange” zones, restrictions are imposed on the work of public catering establishments: restaurants, clubs. Thus, from 22:00 hours the institutions will have to close.

In addition, preparations for the deployment of large infectious disease hospitals in case of overload of medical institutions of the first and second wave are starting in Kiev, Odessa, Mariupol.

Interns and seniors at medical colleges will be drawn to work in infectious disease departments.

The Ministry of Health will increase the number of PCR tests from 30 to 35,000 to 50,000 per day. For this, the government contributed 260 million hryvnia to increase the number of tests for coronavirus, of which 100 million to contract private laboratories, 160 million hryvnia for the additional purchase of reagents and laboratory equipment.

The president also instructed the Ministry of Health to increase stocks of personal protective equipment and medicines that are used in the treatment of complications from the coronavirus.

Furthermore, Zelensky instructed to prepare hospitals and departmental institutions subordinate to the Medical Academy of Sciences before accepting COVID-19 patients, which will significantly increase the number of beds.

At the same time, the president gave instructions to solve the problem with the oxygen supply. By the end of the month, local authorities should equip 80% of beds with COVID-19 patients with oxygen.

To top it all, the Verkhovna Rada is invited to consider amendments to the Ukrainian law “On ensuring the health and epidemic welfare of the population”. Thus, businessmen, institutions and organizations that allow the entry of people without masks to public places or public transport can begin to be fined. The fine is expected to be increased to 3,400-5100 hryvnia.

Recall, according to the Ministry of Health, as of today, more than 70% of hospital beds are filled with coronavirus patients in four regions of Ukraine.

In addition, more than 4.7 thousand new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed per day in the country. Most of the cases were registered in the Kharkov, Zhitomir, Khmelnitsky and Kiev regions.
