Ukraine’s Minister of Education and Science, Serhiy Shkarlet, believes that the transition to distance education will help prevent the rapid spread of the coronavirus.

Ukraine’s Minister of Education and Science, Serhiy Shkarlet, called on local authorities to transfer school children to distance education. He wrote about this on Telegram.

“The request is not only as a head of the Ministry of Education and Science, but as a parent, to find an opportunity to organize distance learning for our children during the next two weeks. I know and understand that the educational organization issues are decide locally. It is important that in such a difficult situation the central and local authorities acted jointly. Therefore, I ask you to heed the recommendations of state and local commissions on issues of technogenic and environmental safety and emergency situations , as well as the National Defense and Security Council, ”he said.

Shkarlet added that he understands “all the challenges faced by directors of educational institutions, teachers and parents.”

“The whole world is trying to overcome these challenges. The most important thing for us now is to prevent the rapid spread of the coronavirus and preserve the health of people,” the minister concluded.



An outbreak of coronavirus infection began in late 2019 in China. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the spread of the coronavirus a pandemic.

As of October 10, there were 36.88 million cases of COVID-19 coronavirus infection in the world, according to Johns Hopkins University. The total number of victims of the pandemic reached 1.07 million and 25.66 million people have already recovered.

In Ukraine, more than 256 thousand people were infected with the coronavirus, of which 4,887 people died, 112,570 recovered.
