The action began at the monument to Yaroslav the Wise near the Zolotye Vorota metro station. From there, activists and relatives of the prisoners made their way to the SBU headquarters. In the Security Service building, they demanded to effectively carry out work on the issue of gathering information on the exchange of prisoners and a legal assessment of the actions of those released.
Likewise, the protesters went to the Cabinet of Ministers, where they demanded to intensify the work of the commission on the issues of the disappeared, which was created 2 years ago, but still does not work.
What do the participants of the action require?
Activists and relatives of Ukrainian prisoners and captives have filed a series of lawsuits with the authorities.
In particular, pass a law on prisoners of war, which legislatively fixes legal status and ensures the necessary social assistance.
They also demand the passage of a law on war crimes that allows the implementation of the norms of international law, thus confirming Ukraine’s ability to prosecute generally recognized international crimes in the world, to which no statute of limitations applies.
In addition, the protesters demand to guarantee the work of the Commission under the Cabinet of Ministers on the issues of the disappeared, which has not worked for about two years, and to give the representatives of the families of the disappeared to participate in the meetings.
They also demand that a person responsible for the Presidency of Capture and Disappearance be identified to improve communication and coordination between relatives of prisoners and disappeared, former captives, and government agencies.
In addition, the protesters demand that the SBU carry out effective work on the issue of gathering information on the exchange and legal assessment of the actions of those released, because not only heroes are released from captivity. The cases in which the organizers of “referendums” and the executioners were released were repeated. These criminals must be punished.
According to the organizers of the action, 235 Ukrainians are currently held captive by militants in Donbas. 112 political prisoners are held in Russian prisons or in places of detention in occupied Crimea.
