Germany 1: 2. Somewhere between despair and hope ᐉ UA-Football

We have to reiterate the fact that serious and inadmissible mistakes at this level in the defense of the Ukrainian team lead to another defeat. However, there are problems on all the lines: it is not possible to keep the ball in midfield, there is no mobility, attackers do not hold on to the ball and defensive disasters are like the visible tip of the iceberg. The last line and indicator of all the complexity of the “blue-yellow” position.

In the opening, Shevchenko’s charges show good pressure and transitions from defense to attack. Several times they managed to escape to the midfield of the guests, deliver the ball to the penalty area, even the Ukrainians created two or three small fires in Neuer’s possessions. The advantage, of course, belonged more to the Germans, they controlled the ball and the center of the field, although they did not force events. The German car gradually picked up speed, as if it were heading out of the narrow streets of a small town onto a wide and spacious Autobahn.

The first moment of danger was created by the Bundestim, we managed to push our defenders in the center, the ball went to Gnabry, who shot dangerously. He was lucky that Buschan did not flinch in the center of the goal, he parried a strong blow, Karavaev collected the ball in the center of the penalty area. Yarmolenko and Yaremchuk stood out among the “blue-yellows”, missing a bit, then Kroos, then Kimmich intercepted the ball at the last moment. Malinovsky and Tsygankov also took over the game, stepped up, kept the opponent’s defense in suspense, but the hosts could not create a really dangerous moment for a long time.

But Germany not only created good chances, they also scored. Kimmich threw the ball into the penalty area, the defenders counterattacked awkwardly, Rüdiger picked up the projectile and approached the right flank. Then the Chelsea player fired along the goal, Gnabry missed, but Ginter closed the pass. It is inadmissible, in addition, the Ukrainians provided the Germans with a lot of criminal space in their penalty area. As an example to follow, the guests against the hosts acted much more closely at their gates, and this despite the fact that it is the German defense line that is now considered the most problematic.

He was able to regain the “blue-yellow” after a strong long-range hit from Yaremchuk, Roman aimed under the crossbar, the ball flew higher. Several times Yarmolenko came out in good positions, burst into free zones, but then overexposed the ball, took cover and the ball was taken away. One by one, Andrey could not beat anyone and this is his main problem: there is no previous self-confidence.

Meanwhile, Lev’s charges advanced, attacked with great force and, most importantly, reached the goal. Closer to halftime, Draxler upset Buschan, then Kimmich delivered a more dangerous blow and Gnabry struck incredibly dangerous in the 34th minute. Buschan made a miraculous save by landing a “dead” blow from close range.

In the second half, it seemed that the Ukrainian team had to add, receive instructions from the coaching staff, calm down and do everything with a cool head to come back. Exactly one and a half combinations managed to make the “blue-yellow” after the restart of the game, as they made a number of primitive mistakes, and the score became more critical for us. Everything was simple: Klostermann hung up in the goalkeeper’s room, Buschan was first on the ball and did not hold it back, and Goretska headed the ball into the net – 0: 2. Two minutes later, Draxler had to make the score overwhelming, the doorman had already helped.

The Germans pressed, looked organized and restrained at the same time, at certain moments the guests managed to close the Ukrainians in their penalty area. In the second half, our team lacked a good passer, since in the opening it was no longer possible to go quickly from defense to attack. Once again, the Bundestim created more dangerous moments, but the “blue-yellows” also responded: Tsygankov hit well and Yaremchuk turned the second wind. Our striker earned a penalty, Zyule fouled Yaremchuk in the penalty area, the referee immediately and undoubtedly designated a penalty. Malinovsky realized the opportunity in cold blood.

Hope was revived, moreover, Marlos, Zubkov, Shaparenko, then Makarenko made good substitutions. Already the Germans began to hold on to the doors and there was a period when it was possible to put pressure on the guests. Again there was a penalty kick from Malinovsky, Marlos kissed the ball. Something was missing. Most likely, the general class of the team. Let’s be honest, in all respects Germany has beaten us and won deservedly. In many ways it was a historic match: the Germans ‘first Nations League victory and the Ukrainians’ first home defeat against the Bundestim.

You should not despair, you should learn from such coincidences in order to improve. Compared to France, the “blue-yellows” didn’t look too bad, having received another piece of invaluable experience. And then we will see. In just two days another test awaits us: the Spanish team. True baptism of fire, however, if you want to be the best, play with the best.
