Polish Foreign Minister Rau Zbigniew said Nord Stream 2 could be stopped. At the same time, the politician called Russia an unreliable partner for the EU.

He said it in an interview with “Polish Radio”. “Of course, this (the closure of Nord Stream 2, – ed.) Is quite possible, because this project was not completed, but the most important thing here is this reflection, which comes down to fundamental values, human rights and the position of civil society, Russia is not a reliable partner, so it cannot be a reliable partner in political and economic aspects either, “said the politician.

When asked whether Gazprom would pay a fine of 1.4 billion euros to Poland, he said it would depend on the government’s determination. “It is necessary to take into account the enormous amount of evidence on this case. Therefore, I believe that it will also become a support here for this discussion, now not only German, but also from all over Europe,” said the minister.

Nord Stream 2 will avoid transit states (Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, and other Eastern European countries) through the exclusive economic zones and territorial waters of Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Germany.

The project is estimated at 9.5 billion euros. It is being implemented by Gazprom in alliance with the European companies Engie, Uniper, OMV, Shell, Wintershall. They promised to finance Nord Stream 2 in total by 50%, that is for 950 million euros each. Gazprom will provide the second half of the funds: 4,750 million euros.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the pipeline should be commissioned by early 2021. Thus, Gazprom has just over four months left to complete the ambitious project.
