The US embassy wants the National Bank of Ukraine to be independent from the Ukrainian authorities
American diplomats insist on the independence of the National Bank of Ukraine from the Ukrainian authorities.
The US Embassy in Ukraine shares the concerns of the International Monetary Fund over the reprimand of the First Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, Yekaterina Rozhkova, and Deputy Governor Dmitry Sologub. This was reported on Friday, November 9, by the European publication Pravda, citing a statement from the United States Embassy.
“A strong and independent National Bank is of vital importance for the future economic development of Ukraine,” the statement said.
As a reminder, the NBU Council expressed mistrust and reprimanded Rozhkova and Sologub due to violations of NBU regulations, the NBU employee code of ethics, internal regulations for NBU employees and the requirements of the Labor Code from Ukraine.
After that, the head of the IMF office in Ukraine, Josta Lyngman, said that the IMF calls for adherence to the management principles of the National Bank, which have proven its benefits for the regulator.
