The threat of Russian social media to Ukraine’s national security is overblown. According to an information security expert, former Deputy Minister of Information Policy Tatiana Popova, the danger of Russian social networks was offset by the departure of Ukrainian users.
This is stated in the RBC-Ukraine article “Broken networks. How Ukraine fights VKontakte and what the elections have to do with it.”
“I think that in the form that VKontakte is now, it no longer poses a threat to Ukraine’s national security. It is very important not to respect our national security to say that in its current form it carries some kind of threat.” “, – said Popova.
As a reminder, in early September, the Vkontakte network became available on the territory of Ukraine through the application. Later, the NSDC said that the resumption of the application could contribute to the collection of personal data by the Russian special services.
As RBC-Ukraine wrote, the Security Service of Ukraine asked Google and Apple to ban the Vkontakte application on the territory of Ukraine.
