AMD has announced its new line of Ryzen 5000 desktop processors, the first chips based on the next-generation Zen 3 architecture.
Ryzen 5000 series processors, like last year’s Ryzen 3000 devices, are made using 7nm process technology. At the same time, thanks to architectural improvements, the number of instructions executed per cycle increased by 19%. In addition, the new processors have redesigned the chip design and increased the maximum frequency in automatic overclocking mode. AMD says that simply by replacing an existing Zen 2 processor with a comparable new Zen 3 processor, the user will experience an average performance gain of 26%. At the same time, other system components will remain the same (processors are socket-compatible and can be installed on existing motherboards after updating the BIOS), the number of compute cores will remain unchanged, and the TDP indicator will not increase.
Initially, four processor models were announced as part of the new Ryzen 5000 lineup. The new flagship is the 16-core (32-thread support) Ryzen 9 5950X chip, capable of running at up to 4.9 GHz. Its MSRP is from $ 799. The most affordable models are also available among the new products. Information about each model is shown in the following table.
Model | Kernels / Streams | TDP | Frequency / base boost | Cache | Price |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | 16/32 | 105 watts | Up to 4.9 / 3.4 GHz | 72 MB | $ 799 |
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X | 12/24 | 105 watts | Up to 4.8 / 3.7 GHz | 70 MB | $ 549 |
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | 16/8 | 105 watts | Up to 4.7 / 3.8 GHz | 36 MB | $ 449 |
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | 6/12 | 65 watts | Up to 4.6 / 3.7 GHz | 35 MB | $ 299 |
It should be noted that AMD’s Zen 3 processors were $ 50 more expensive than their 2019 chips. All new products will begin shipping on November 5.
AMD isn’t shy about calling one of the newer chips, the Ryzen 5900X, “the best gaming processor in the world.” In various gaming applications (League of Legends, Dota 2, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, etc.), the novelty outperforms the competing Intel Core i9-10900K solution. Although the Intel processor demonstrates the advantage in the Battlefield V game. Now you must wait for the results of independent tests to evaluate how true AMD’s claims are.
