The head of EU diplomacy is Josep Borrell
Borrell, on behalf of the organization, once again called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to stop hostilities.
OSCE observers are still absent from the Karabakh conflict zone, making it difficult to verify data on the situation in the unrecognized republic. This was announced on Wednesday, October 7, by the high representative of the EU, Josep Borrell, at a meeting of the European Parliament in Brussels, said the press service of the organization.
“In fact, we have little information about how the conflict is developing. There is little detailed information, there is a lot of fake news,” said the European politician.
Borrell also reported more and more misinformation from both sides of the confrontation.
“We are seeing an increasing amount of disinformation that aims to mobilize the national public in both countries and can be used to attract regional actors to the conflict,” the EU official warned, adding that some news could not be confirmed.
In this sense, the organization does not exclude a further escalation of the conflict between Yerevan and Baku and the participation of third countries in it.
The politician representing the Union once again asked the participants in the confrontation to stop the hostilities and to sit at the negotiating table.
“I am very sorry not to be able to tell you more about this, because, as I said, there is very little information and you have to be careful not to spread news that has not been confirmed,” Borrell summarized.
As reported, the Iranian authorities sent protest notes to Armenia and Azerbaijan in connection with the bombing of their border territory with Nagorno-Karabakh. The countries have admitted their mistake, reported Iranian Deputy Chief of Police Qasem Rezai.
