Anatoly Zagorodny became the new president of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
His candidacy was chosen on Wednesday, October 7, according to the NAS website.
“Academician Anatoliy Glebovich Zagorodny was elected president of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine by secret ballot by two-thirds of the votes,” it was reported.
Zagorodny replaced Boris Paton on this post.
It should be noted that Zagorodny is 69 years old. He is the youngest of the four candidates to run for president of the academy.
Before his election, he was vice president of the National Academy of Sciences. Zagorodny is also Director and Head of the Department of Plasma Process Theory and Modeling at the Institute for Theoretical Physics, Chairman of the NAS Commission on the Scientific Heritage of Scholar Vernadsky.
His scientific works are dedicated to problems of theoretical and mathematical physics, physics of kinetic phenomena, plasma theory, statistical physics.
As OBOZREVATEL reported, on August 19 the death of prominent scientist Boris Paton became known. He directed the National Academy of Sciences from 1962.
We said goodbye to Paton on August 22nd. He was buried in the Baikovo cemetery.
