Peskov commented on the conclusions of the OPCW

Russia awaits the arrival of the organization’s experts to see “what is required” in Russia.

Russia asked the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to send experts to cooperate in the incident with Alexei Navalny. This was announced on Wednesday, October 7, by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, writes TASS.

“Russia requested technical assistance in the same way, Russia did the same as Germany. Germany requested assistance and received information from the OPCW … We do not know what information exactly, we only know the main drafts that were published, but there are no details,” He said.

Peskov noted that it is not worth talking about further development of the situation before the OPCW’s response.

He assured that OPCW experts will be able to see “what is required” in the Russian Federation. “They were specifically invited so that they could see something here, the point is that Russia sincerely wants to shed light on all the circumstances, reasons and essence of what happened in Omsk,” the Kremlin spokesman said.

Peskov also assured that Russia is not doing any work on the development or improvement of chemical weapons.

“They cannot be carried out due to the fact that Russia is party to the relevant convention on the banning of chemical weapons. The Russian Federation has fulfilled all its obligations under this convention, so this is out of the question,” he said.

With regard to the OPCW’s statements, Peskov noted the need to study this organization information, and not “general statements”, that is, “professional information”.

We will remember, on the eve of the OPCW confirming the presence of a toxic substance in the Navalny analyzes. At the same time, it was observed that the biomarkers found have structural characteristics similar to the toxic substances added to the Chemicals Annex of the Chemical Weapons Convention in November 2019. At the same time, this tool is not included in the application for chemicals , the OPCW specified.
