Peskov added that Tikhanovskaya is on the territory of the European Union and “meets with various heads of state and government, who in turn consider the incumbent head of Belarus illegitimate.”
On September 29, the Belarusian opposition leader met in Lithuania with French President Emmanuel Macron, and on October 6 she held talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Before that, he said that he would like to meet with Putin to understand why he supports Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko.
Presidential elections were held in Belarus on August 9, immediately after which mass protests and strikes began across the country. During the crackdown on anti-government demonstrations, at least four protesters were killed. Thousands of people were arrested.
In the first week of protests, Lukashenka and Putin called three times.
