In response to the second wave of coronavirus, Ukraine will introduce quarantine measures
The World Bank awaits the reintroduction of certain containment measures in response to the “second wave” of coronavirus in Ukraine. This is due to the fact that the number of recorded daily infections continues to increase.
This is stated in the World Bank forecast.
As noted in the document, the Ukrainian economy has been hit hard by the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020. Overall, GDP declined 11.4% year-on-year in the second quarter, causing the GDP of the mid-2020 will fall 6.5% year-on-year.
“However, the negative impact turned out to be less severe than initially expected, as the large-scale isolation lasted only from mid-March to early May and was replaced by an adaptive quarantine that included many services and allowed a return to normal operation, “says the review. …
Furthermore, the World Bank expects a slowdown in the pace of reforms in Ukraine.
“The basic assumption is to reintroduce some containment measures in response to the ‘second wave’ (given that the number of reported infections daily continues to rise) and a slower pace of reform,” the document says.
We will recall, in October, the World Bank predicted the decline of the Ukrainian economy in 2020 by 5.5%. This is 2.0 pp less than the forecast for a reduction in gross domestic product, which the bank gave in April (3.5%).
Note that, according to a survey by the Sociological Group “Rating”, half of Ukrainians are against strict quarantine during the second wave of the epidemic.
