The EU agrees to update the Association Agreement with Ukraine / GORDON

Ukraine and the European Union expect further strengthening of economic integration and regulatory convergence under the Association Agreement.

Following the bilateral summit in Brussels, Ukraine and the European Union agreed to renew the Association Agreement. This is stated in a joint statement by the leaders of the EU and Ukraine, published on the website of the European Council.

According to the text of the document, the parties expect further strengthening of economic integration and regulatory convergence under the agreement in several areas: digital market, environmental protection, fight against climate change, financial cooperation.

“We agreed to prepare by the end of 2020 a common work plan for cooperation between the EU and Ukraine in relation to electronic trust services with the prospect of concluding a possible agreement, which should be based on the approximation to the legislation and standards of the EU, “the statement said.

The EU also emphasizes the importance of progress in meeting Ukraine’s commitments in the areas of climate change, environment, marine ecosystem, education, energy, transport and agriculture.

Furthermore, Ukraine and the EU agreed to further discuss and explore ways to improve the implementation of the Deep and Wide Free Trade Area.

September 16, 2014 the Verkhovna Rada and the European Parliament approved simultaneously Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. September 1, 2017 came into force in full.

According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, as of July, the agreement was fulfilled by 41.6%.
