Several EU countries decided to call their Belarusian ambassadors for consultations. This was announced by the Polish Foreign Minister, Zbigniew Rau, in Twitter.

In coordination with the European Service for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and the EU Member States, we have taken a joint decision on calling for consultations some accredited ambassadors in Belarus. Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius said the temporary removal of the ambassador for consultations would serve to reduce tensions and contribute to the preservation of diplomatic representation at the ambassadorial level, the press service of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said.

Let us remember that after several weeks of discussions, the EU leaders agreed to impose sanctions on Belarus in relation to the controversial election results and the repression of protests in this country.

The sanctions against Belarus affect those who participated in the falsification of the presidential election results and in the brutal repression of peaceful demonstrations after the August 9 elections.
