Every tenth inhabitant of the planet could be infected with COVID – WHO

The organization indicates variations according to the country, urban or rural area, but still cites a figure of 10%.

Every tenth inhabitant of the Earth could be infected with the coronavirus. This was stated by the Director of the WHO Health Emergencies Program, Michael Ryan, at the WHO Executive Board meeting in Geneva on Monday 5 October.

“Current estimates tell us that around 10% of the world’s population may have been infected with this virus. In this sense, there are variations between countries, in urban and rural areas, and between different groups. This means that the vast majority of the world’s population is at risk [заболеть]Ryan said.

He added that the pandemic will continue to evolve, but noted the availability of work tools “to suppress transmission and save lives.”

According to him, the further development of the situation in the field of the fight against COVID-19 will depend on the choices that humanity collectively makes, on how it uses these tools.

Previously, the WHO suggested that the number of COVID-19 victims could double. The world has recorded nearly a million deaths from the coronavirus, but the death toll could reach 2 million, the organization said.

Furthermore, the WHO indicated that COVID fakes can be as dangerous as the virus. Many people have been hurt due to false information about the coronavirus, the organization explained.
