In Switzerland, in the canton of Geneva, the minimum wage was set at the highest level in the world: 23 Swiss francs per hour (25 dollars or 700 UAH).
According to CNN, the decision was made in a referendum. It was supported by 58% of the voters. This is how unions intend to fight poverty.
Geneva is the fourth of the 26 cantons of Switzerland to have such a vote.
“The new minimum wage will apply to around 6% of the canton’s workers as of November 1,” said State Councilor Mauro Poggia. We are talking about 30 thousand people, two thirds of whom are women.
According to the official, with the condition of working 41 hours a week, the monthly minimum wage will reach 4 thousand Swiss francs, or $ 4,347.
Gin take tenth line in the ranking of the most expensive cities in the world. 4,000 Swiss francs is just above the poverty line of 3,968 Swiss francs for a family of two adults and two children under 14 years of age.
For example, renting a normal three-room apartment in Geneva costs at least 3,000 francs (90,000 hryvnias) and a cup of coffee costs four or five francs (120-150 hryvnias).
The question of the minimum wage in the canton was examined twice: in 2011 and 2014. In the latter case, during the national referendum on the introduction of a minimum wage of 22 Swiss francs, 76% of voters opposed it.

Lunches Having received the coveted 5000 hryvnia after a month of daily work, a resident of Ukraine can afford to eat well 30 times in “Puzata Khata” (borsch, cutlet with buckwheat, dessert and tea). Geneva resident: can feed 25 Ukrainians daily for a month (around 770 lunches).
-
“Lanos”. On average, an old Lanos in Ukraine costs 94 thousand hryvnia ($ 3319). To save for a car, a Ukrainian will have to save all his money for a year and a half (UAH 5000 × 19 months). For a Swiss, it is enough to work for three weeks and he will also have to rent an “odnushka” in Khreshchatyk.
-
Yykosah. A pack of sticks costs 55 hryvnia, and in a month it “eats” a third of the minimum wage in Ukraine – 1650 hryvnia (about $ 58). For a Geneva resident, pampering yourself with icos will cost 2 hours of work.
