Any match looks brighter if it has a backstory. “Kolos” – “Mariupol” – from this series. It was these rivals in the last game of last season that determined Ukraine’s fifth representative in European competitions. At the beginning of the playoffs, Kolos was not among the favorites, however, it was the Kovalevites who defeated the Azov team in the deciding match, composed of the best graduates of the Shakhtar academy.
On the other hand, it is unlikely that this bug is of great significance to the current version of the Mariupol team. Yavorsky, Fomin, Churko, Polegenko, Fedorchuk, Kornienko did not take the opportunity to play in the Europa League. They are no longer in the Azov club. Therefore, for Markevich’s charges, it was far more important to have the opportunity to carve a place at the top of the ranking than to feel the taste of revenge.
Ostap Markevich charged the defense lines with Kiryukhantsev, Chobotenko, Bykov and Stasyuk to solve the current tasks, with Galchuk behind them. In the center of the field played the three Chekh – Mishnev – Bondarenko. On the flanks of forward Daniil Sikan, Gorbunov and Topalov supported.
Ruslan Kostyshin again decided to play with three defenders and used almost the same line-up that opposed AEK and “Rijeka”. The difference was that Kravchenko came out on the right in defense, not Zozulya (as he was against the Greeks), but in midfield alongside Bogdanov Milko instead of Zadoya. However, Kolos head coach’s plans began to unravel very quickly. Already in the seventh minute, Antyukh left the field due to injury, in the 19 – Smirny, and in the 25 – Novak. Thus, Kostyshin had to replace the two main wingers with Ilyin and Kostyshin, and then release Orihovskiy, leading to a return to the scheme with two centrals and three central midfielders.
It is difficult to say what caused such an epidemic of injuries in Kovalivka’s team. Perhaps this was due to the habit of playing two games a week (and after the LE it was the Cup). Or perhaps it is a banal coincidence of circumstances. Whatever it is, a lot of fights, joints, fouls, and substitutions completely ruined the first half. An irregular rhythm, a minimum of exacerbations and interesting solutions. “Kolos” just before half-time created their first moment – Lysenko threw Kostyshin, managed to catch the ball and go to goal at an angle, but Galchuk held the blow. From the same corner, Lysenko shot dangerously with her head, but missed badly.
In the middle of the half, “Mariupol” received a kick from Stasyuk, which was almost made effective by a rebound from Topalov. And in the second he compensated Sikan closed the center of Topalov himself, ahead of the defender. It missed the mark.
But the second half justified the hopes of Kovalev’s fans. After all, it was his team, once he showed his character, he dominated the field and if Fortune had been a favorable pain for him, he easily would have won this match. Immediately after the resumption of the game, “Kolos” turned on the pressure, which almost reached the goal of “Mariupol”. This actually triggered Galchuk’s first shot into goal, however, intercepting the ball, the hosts were unable to stop it.
Two minutes later, Lysenko hit the crossbar, which dragged the ball from the center of the field and shot from 20 meters. From that moment on, Vladimir came to the fore and not a single attack by “Kolos” was complete without his participation. In the same attack, Bogdanov struck with a second pace from outside the penalty area in the bottom corner, but Galchuk succeeded. And two minutes later, Lysenko closed the service from the side with his head, in the hands of the goalkeeper.
The azovites were clearly unprepared for such an attack. To slow down the pace, “Mariupol” had to play the ball for a long time in his half of the field. It is true that the high pressure of Kolos made these transfers quite nervous. One of them was about to end in goal when Bogdanov intercepted the ball, surpassed Lysenko and, in the one on one, pushed the goalkeeper and passed the door. Ilyin was not enough to close the blow / cross. The attack continued with a corner kick, after which Petrov hit the crossbar with his head.
The third time he played the door frame for “Mariupol” in the 89th minute. Bogdanov then decided to take a corner kick at goal. Galchuk reached out with his fingertips and moved the ball to the crossbar! In the context of so many opportunities, Stasyuk’s dangerous but inaccurate punch after moving from the flank seemed quite modest. “Mariupol” in the second half seemed squeezed and frankly defended himself.
It seemed that Markevich’s team was going to achieve their goal, but after all the trials (injuries, skeletons) “Kolos” begged Fortuna for another chance and made the most of it. Although this episode can be interpreted as the referee’s lack of professionalism. Or the imperfection of the human eye. Or the imperfection of the system, that the VAR system cannot provide for all the games of the maximum division. At 90 + 4 minutes, after Lysenko’s discount, Ilyin burst into the penalty area and got into Sagutkin’s back in the legs. An indisputable foul that occurs BEFORE the penalty area line. However, assistant referee Vladimir Vysotsky suggested to Kopievsky that he should take a penalty kick. That colleague was confident and Orihovsky confidently outpointed the goalkeeper.
1: 0 – “Kolos”, of course, deserved a win for the game, but “Mariupol” draw was frankly stolen by an illegal decision by the referee team.
