The Ukrainian nation is aging, in 15 years there will be twice as many retirees as the working population, predicts the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denis Shmyhal.

In 15 years, Ukraine will not be able to pay pensions to its citizens. Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal said this when he was giving a lecture at Lviv Polytechnic University. The transmission was made on the YouTube channel of the Cabinet of Ministers.

“Old Europe and Ukraine, as part of it, is not recreated, the nation is aging. This is a human capital problem,” he said.

Shmygal predicts that in 15 years the ratio of the working-age population to retirees will be estimated at one to two.

“This means that taxes will have to be doubled so that companies can support retirees at the current level. And if we want more, we have to raise taxes even more.” […] Of course, it is not possible to double or more. We will not be able to pay pensions to future retirees in 15 years, it is the usual mathematical and economic demographics. What do we have to do? There are different approaches, “Shmygal said.

He noted that he considers the absence of a funded pension system one of the crimes against Ukraine.

“Each of you should take care of your pension, probably from an early age. We will create a capitalization system starting next year. That is, each of you can accumulate a pension and will have some type of small social pension, as in the developed countries”. , which you give to the state and your own funds – as you believe, “- she told the students.

According to the Pension Fund, the total more than 11.2 million pensioners in Ukraine… More than 8.4 million of them receive an old-age pension, the average size of which is 3166.53 UAH.

The minimum pension in Ukraine from September 1 is 2 thousand UAH.
